The education price index rose 7.19% year-on-month due to tuition fee increases at the beginning of the year, pushing the September CPI up 0.54%.

The General Statistics Office has just announced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2016, showing a 0.54% increase compared to the previous month and a 3.34% increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the price index for the education group increased by 7.19% compared to the previous month, with tuition fees rising by 8.36%.

The transportation group also saw a strong increase of 0.55%, followed by culture, entertainment, and tourism at 0.18%, and clothing, hats, and footwear at 0.14%... Only the telecommunications services group decreased by 0.07%.

According to the General Statistics Office, the sharp increase in education indicators was due to tuition fee increases at the beginning of the school year in 53 provinces and cities. During the month, increased demand for school supplies such as clothing, hats, and textbooks pushed the consumer price index up by 0.14% compared to the previous month.

The second most significant increase was in the transportation group, with a rise of 0.55%, mainly due to the gasoline price increases on August 19th and September 5th.Additionally, due to the ripple effect, bus and taxi fares also increased slightly, contributing to the overall increase in the group.

After two consecutive months of decline, the price index for this group of goods reversed course and increased again, recording a 0.09% increase compared to the previous month, with food increasing by 0.16%, processed foods by 0.1%, and eating out by 0.04%.

Gold and the US dollar, two commodities not included in the overall price index, moved in opposite directions. While the price of gold decreased by 0.36%, the price of the dollar increased by 0.07% compared to the previous month.
