Mr. Dam: 'I received a birthday gift equivalent to a house'

The "King of Vietnamese Music" revealed that the biggest gift he received during his live show was from a businessman, enough for him to buy an apartment for his whole family to live comfortably.

Contacting Dam Vinh Hung early in the morning after the second night of the live show, the writer was surprised when he picked up the phone immediately. After two days of devoting all his energy to the show, one would think he would sleep in, but on the contrary, he said he stayed up all night because of joy.

Not willing to rest, Dam Vinh Hung quickly started preparing for a grand birthday party tonight (October 3).

I couldn't sleep all night because I was so happy.

- How do you feel after the 12 billion VND live show?

- Honestly, when the live show ended, I felt so regretful. I wanted that moment to last forever, wanted to perform it on stage over and over again, and didn't want to leave. Hearing the praises from the public, colleagues, and the press, I was so happy. I couldn't sleep all night, and at 5am I couldn't close my eyes because I was so happy.

- What do you remember most about the 20th anniversary singing show?

- For an artist, there is nothing happier than hearing compliments from the audience and being loved by everyone. My colleagues in the entertainment industry were all present and gave their all with me.

Especially, the entire crew of the show from backstage, dancers, I felt how sincere everyone's love for me was. Everyone came to me with unity and dedication. They put the effectiveness of the show above money. Maybe I am the lucky one to receive so much love.

What touched me the most was the love my fans showed me. Many fans from the US, Canada, Australia, Hanoi, and Hai Phong also flew to Saigon to congratulate me.

There are countless memorable gifts that I can't list all but the biggest gift is something I couldn't even imagine in my dreams. This fan is a successful businessman, he knows all my songs.

During the live show, he gave me a gift big enough for me to buy a nice apartment for the whole family to live comfortably.

- In the first show, some guests were criticized for not singing well, affecting the overall program like Bao Anh. So for the live show in Hanoi, do you plan to change?

- I still kept the color and program in Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. Actually, it was just a small problem with the sound, by the second night everything had changed and been perfected. I myself also encountered a few small problems on the first night.

As for Bao Anh, everyone should sympathize with her. Recently, she encountered a huge family incident. Bao Anh is very good at going on stage, singing and dancing like that.

- People wonder why you don't perform the hits associated with your career instead of singing strange songs in the commemorative live show. How do you explain that?

- If I were to re-do old hits, this live show would not be anything special compared to my other music nights. I don’t want the audience to get bored with the images of ferry docks, rivers, schools… that have appeared familiarly in live shows celebrating 10 years and 15 years of singing. It is because singing new songs that creates surprises for the audience.

From the past until now, everyone has seen that I choose music that is not limited to any genre. Because of that novelty, the audience sat until the last minute of the program and were all regretful when it had to be said goodbye.

Only I dare to play

- Before the two shows, his leg was injured but he still danced very well and tonight (October 3), he continued to have fun with 700 guests at a birthday party. Are you being too subjective about your health?

- Many people even said that I used the foot injury as a PR trick. Why would I do that when all the tickets were sold out before the show? The foot injury was unexpected and unforeseeable, but it couldn't ruin the big plan that had been set.

To perform well on stage, I had to take strong doses of anesthetic to forget all the pain. Luckily, the wound has healed now.

- Besides the compliments, your live show also received many mixed opinions such as the visual part overshadowing the audio part. What is your opinion?

- In Vietnam, people always give their opinions and comments before every event. When a beauty queen is crowned, she is always dissected and compared to the runner-up. The winner of a contest can never satisfy everyone's opinions.

I don’t care about people like that and I don’t intend to serve them. Comments like that are just for the sake of talking and can’t make Dam Vinh Hung sad.

- In Vietnam, there is no singer who does a show with a whole warehouse of gold-plated accessories, diamonds, and branded items. Do you display those things in your live show to show off your class?

- I bring those things to the live show because they serve the program, they show the color of the show. A person's class does not depend on those superficial things.

The class and position of an artist is the product they bring and contribute to the public. Is their performance accepted by the public? The class of a singer is nothing other than music.

Here, what I want to affirm is that I am not afraid to invest in the work that I am passionate about. That in the music market that I participate in, I dare to affirm that only Dam Vinh Hung is willing to play and do shows like that.
