Professor Tran Thanh Van is one of the 10 outstanding scientists for Vietnam in 2006. He is the one who has made great contributions in connecting scientific exchanges between famous physicists who have won Nobel Prizes from countries around the world with Vietnamese physicists. He and Academician Professor Nguyen Van Hieu initiated the coordination of organizing many international physics conferences in Vietnam. With their love for their homeland, Professor Tran Thanh Van, along with Professor Le Kim Ngoc, she is the President of the Association for Helping Vietnamese Children in France; the two professors convinced Professor Odon Vallet to come to the poor and excellent students in Vietnam.

Odon Vallet scholarships have been available to Vietnamese students since 2001. Every year, the number of scholarships and the value of each scholarship have increased gradually; from 800 scholarships in 2001, to 900 scholarships in 2002, in 2007 there were 2,100 scholarships, the value of each scholarship for high school students is 2,700,000 VND, for university students is 4,200,000 VND, the total cost is over 6 billion VND.

The scholarship recipients are students with especially difficult circumstances such as orphans, disabled, poor... who have excelled in their studies and have been well-behaved; they are outstanding students at high schools and universities.

Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Lat, Da Nang, Hue, Quang Binh, Vinh-Nghe An are the stops on the annual cross-Vietnam journey of the Odon Vallet scholarship.

Odon Vallet scholarships have also come to poor and excellent students in Nghe An since 2001, through the introduction of teacher Nguyen Dinh Ba, lecturer at Vinh University; teacher Tran Quoc Cuong, principal of Hermann School - Nghe An.

In 2007, the Odon Vallet scholarship award ceremony for 137 excellent poor students was held in Nghe An on September 5, with a total cost of 393 million VND.

This is a meaningful gift that helps reduce the hardships for the children, encouraging them to continue to strive to improve their studies and cultivate themselves well. Among them, some have achieved admirable results: Nguyen Tat Nghia won the Gold Medal in International Physics; Le Van Thanh, a PhD student in Mathematics, has had many works published in scientific journals in France, the US, Korea, etc.

Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony at Nghe An Guest House, Professor Odon Vallet expressed his sincere feelings, saying: "You don't have to thank me, but you have to thank your parents for giving birth to you; thank your teachers for educating you to be good people...". The professor hopes that students in Nghe An will promote the good tradition of "loving learning and respecting teachers; encouraging learning and valuing talents" and will continue to study well, strive well, grow up in the future, and serve the homeland well.

Poor and excellent students in Nghe An who received Odon Vallet Scholarships are always grateful to the French professor and scientist who is kind-hearted towards students in Nghe An.
