Mango Tuong Duong

Mango Tuong Duongg has the characteristic of small, compact fruit, rather rough skin, not smooth, sweet taste and characteristic aroma. Especially the mango varietyThis fruit can be harvested and sold when it is still green, because at this stage the fruit is very crispy, not sour, and can be transported long distances without fear of damage.

Currently, Tuong Duong has 47.4 hectares of mango growing area; the most is in Hoa Binh Town and Thach Giam Commune, the town alone has 14 hectares grown mainly by 38 households. The average yield of this mango variety in recent years has reached 9 quintals/ha (1 ha has a density of 200 trees), giving an income of about 12 million VND/ha.

Recently (June 16), the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a mango competition, with the participation of 21 garden owners. With the criteria: fruit weight, color, taste, the organizing committee chose to award prizes to mango gardens with high quality. This is truly a good and meaningful measure to help people better understand the value of Tuong Duong mango specialties, and at the same time help find valuable genetic resources, serving the work of conservation and development.

However, in order for mangoes to have a worthy position in the market, Tuong Duong needs to have a specific orientation for preserving and developing this mango variety; need to have a detailed planning of the growing area, in-depth research, and identify new areas that can help Tuong Duong mango trees grow and produce high quality like the existing areas; need to have policies to support capital, support planting techniques, fruit preservation... for the people. In addition, it is necessary to build a nursery system to supply Tuong Duong mango varieties to the people in the area, because most of the mango gardens today are quite old (from 10 to 30 years); need to build a brand, have legal protection and specific geographical indications so that customers everywhere can know.
