Vietnam's number 1 tennis player participated in this tournament as the defending champion.

The 2011 Australian Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament will take place from April 5-10, in Melbourne (Australia).

At this tournament in 2010, Nguyen Tien Minh won the championship without much difficulty, however this year the Australian Open badminton tournament has been upgraded to Grand Prix Gold, with a total prize money of 120,000 USD and 7,000 bonus points for the championship, thus attracting many of the world's top players to compete.

This year, Nguyen Tien Minh is ranked 7th in the Badminton World Federation rankings and is seeded No. 2. Thai player Boonsak Ponsana, currently ranked No. 6 in the world, is seeded No. 1 in the tournament. According to the bracket, there is a high possibility of a dramatic final match between these two players.

Setting goals for this tournament, tennis player Nguyen Tien Minh shared that this year's tournament is completely different from last year's because it has been raised to a new level, very strong, attracting many strong tennis players such as Boonsak Ponsana (Thailand).

“Minh’s goal in this tournament is to try to reach the semi-finals and more. His goal for the whole year is to stay in the world’s top 10 and win a title,” said the player.
