Like other localities, this year spring rice in Con Cuong district (Nghe An) will be harvested 10-15 days later than usual and there will be no time left for summer-autumn production. (Baonghean) -Like other localities, this year spring rice in Con Cuong district (Nghe An) will be harvested 10-15 days later than usual and there will be no time left for summer-autumn production. Therefore, the district is currently focusing on preparing the best conditions for early season and main season production.

Vice Chairman of Con Cuong District People's Committee - Mr. Vi Ngoc Quynh, said: This year, due to the delayed spring crop production season, the locality has directed people to follow the planting schedule, focus on sowing and transplanting, end the crop early, and not prolong the time. At the same time, strengthen the work of planning, forecasting, monitoring and detecting pests and diseases to have timely treatment and spraying plans.

With the goal of striving to achieve a food output of 8,000 - 10,000 tons in the autumn and winter crops, Con Cuong has proposed quite specific solutions that are suitable to actual conditions. Over the years, the experience in agricultural production of the district is that each commune must base on the direction of the superiors and the actual situation of its locality in terms of water resources, soil, and level of intensive investment in fertilization to have a reasonable seed structure and season. In rice production, the district advocates banning direct sowing and concentrating on sowing seedlings to manage planthoppers well on seedlings, while giving priority to using planthopper-resistant rice varieties that are less susceptible to planthoppers. In a field, only use varieties with the same growth period and plant one to two rice varieties to easily manage pests and diseases.

Regarding the variety structure, the district advocates arranging varieties that have been put into production in previous years and have high, stable yields, ensuring safety, drought resistance, and good resistance to planthoppers. Resolutely not arranging varieties that have been affected by black-striped dwarf disease in previous years. Specifically, the early crop will arrange varieties LC25, Q.uu 1, Khai Phong No. 7, VT-NA1. The main crop will arrange varieties Nhi uu 725, Kim uu 725, Khang dan 18. With purebred rice varieties, do not sow or plant more than 20% of the total area in both the early crop and the main crop.

According to forecasts, this year the drought may last long, so Con Cuong district has advocated introducing drought-resistant corn varieties such as C919, NK 6654, CP 3Q, CP 888 and local waxy corn for intercropping and production on hills in remote communes. Continue to sow L14 and L23 varieties for spring crop on non-flooded land. For Con Cuong, green beans are the main crop in the autumn crop, drought-resistant, short-growing, high-economic value, priority is given to sowing on alluvial soil, silt, and light loam.

To ensure the planting season, the district has directed that for crops grown on fertile soil such as green beans, soybeans, peanuts, and corn, the spring crop should be harvested as soon as possible, and the summer-autumn crop should be planted while the soil is still moist enough to sow, but it is best to sow between June 10 and 20. For rice, the early season crop will be based on the area to proactively arrange the early season, and harvest on time to have land to plant winter crops. The sowing time must be before May 25. The main season crop should be sown before June 10 for hybrid rice and before June 15 for pure rice. It is expected that the earliest 800 hectares of spring rice planted will be harvested from June 10 to 20, so the land must be used for sowing, and at the same time, the yard and ground seedlings must be prepared in time for the early season planting season. For areas that often face drought but cannot be converted, the district advocates a late planting season, avoiding sowing rice seedlings early, waiting for rain to have water to plant the seedlings, which will cause the rice to overgrow, affecting growth and yield.

Currently, Con Cuong has a plan to train people on the production of yard and ground seedlings, especially for villages producing early-season rice. Mr. Quynh said: This training will be conducted in clusters or to each village. The content will focus on how to prevent pests and diseases, especially black-striped dwarf disease that affects rice and corn, and intensive farming techniques and plant care throughout the production process.
