3 suspects in Mumbai bombing case identified

Indian police have identified three suspects in the bombings.in Mumbai city on the evening of July 13, causing nearly 150 casualties.

India's Hindustan Times reported on July 15 that by reviewing television footage from the Opera House area in South Mumbai, police discovered three people acting suspiciously in the hour around the Opera House area before the bombings. The Opera House was one of three locations bombed in Mumbai on the evening of July 13.

The newspaper quoted a security official as saying that Indian authorities are currently investigating the motives of the three bombings and focusing on the armed group Indian Mudjahideen (IM), because a month earlier, Indian security agencies discovered this group had some suspicious activities in Mumbai.

The official said the bombings could be a retaliation by IM for the arrest of 10 of its members in Madhya Pradesh state a month ago. IM has also claimed responsibility for several terrorist attacks in India over the years.

Mumbai was rocked on the evening of July 13 by three massive explosions in the central Dadar district, Zeveri Bazar and the Opera House. All three locations are busy commercial and densely populated areas.

Initial reports said that more than 160 people were injured in the bombings, including at least 21 who died. However, on July 14, Indian security agencies announced the number of casualties again, confirming 17 people were killed and more than 130 were injured./.
