In 1931, the revolutionary movement entered a period of decline, and our Party had to retreat into secret activities. Faced with that situation, the Central Region Party Committee sent comrades Le Xuan Dao (of the Regional Party Committee), Nguyen Huu Binh (Nghe An Provincial Party Committee), and Le Manh Duyet (Anh Son District Party Committee) to the Muong Qua - Mon Son (Con Cuong) region to coordinate activities and build the revolutionary movement.

(Baonghean) -In 1931, the revolutionary movement entered a period of decline, and our Party had to retreat into secret activities.

The comrades contacted and enlightened comrade Vi Van Khang, a young Thai ethnic man (Thai Hoa village - Mon Son commune - an educated person, from a well-off family. In March 1931, in Muong Qua, a struggle broke out against the tyrants and won victory. With this victory, in April 1931, at the private home of comrade Vi Van Khang, the Mon Son Party Cell was officially established, consisting of 05 party members: Vi Van Khang (Secretary), Vi Van Hanh, Vi Van Quy, Tran Ngan, Le Manh Duyet, and later admitted comrade Vi Van Lam. The Party Cell was born and immediately started leading the revolutionary struggle: printing propaganda documents, establishing the Red Peasant Association and Red Self-Defense. On August 7, 1931, on the top of the Con Chua banyan tree, the red hammer and sickle flag fluttered. Under the banyan tree, the Party Cell gathered forces with hundreds of people to protest and then marched to the house of the tyrants. Landlords and village chiefs robbed rice and money to distribute to the poor. Comrade Vi Van Khang's private home became a meeting place, a place to hide cadres and print documents.

As the place where the revolutionary fire was kindled in Con Cuong throughout historical periods, the people of Mon Son have always been at the forefront of the district in all movements to fight for independence and protect the Fatherland. On August 22, in Mon Son commune, the commune's Viet Minh base proactively coordinated with the Viet Minh General Committee Dang Thuong (Anh Son) to mobilize the masses to fight, confiscate the village chief's cards and bronze seals, and declare the establishment of a revolutionary government. The revolution's seizure of power in Mon Son commune caused extreme confusion in the government apparatus throughout the district. Having a clear understanding of the situation, the Viet Minh cadres proactively met and persuaded the Con Cuong District Chief to transfer power to the revolution. On August 28, at a large rally in the center of the district, the Viet Minh representative declared the abolition of the colonial-feudal government and the establishment of a revolutionary government. The entire Con Cuong district was filled with the joy of independence.

Continuing the revolutionary tradition of their ancestors, generations in Mon Son have always been conscious of striving to improve in studying and working, and many have grown up and been assigned important tasks by the Party and the State. We can mention comrades who were born and raised thanks to the fragrant rice grains of Muong Qua fields to mature and be assigned key tasks such as Vi Chien Thang, former Vice Chairman of Nghe Tinh Provincial People's Committee; and comrades Vi Dinh Trinh, Lang Van Ty, Vi Van Phuc, Lo Van Uoc, former Chairman of Con Cuong District People's Committee. What is special is that these 4 comrades took turns holding the position of district head for 32 consecutive years (from 1971-2003). Currently, many of Mon Son's children are being assigned important tasks at the district level and are considered to have great potential, such as comrades Vi Van Son (Standing Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee), Vi Duc Hoai (Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee), Lu Thi Hai (former Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, now Head of the District Party Committee's Propaganda Department)...

In order to educate and promote the revolutionary tradition for generations of Mon Son-Muong Qua people in particular, and the whole Con Cuong district in general, the district People's Committee is implementing the construction of the Vi Van Khang Memorial Area in Thai Hoa village. The memorial area has a total area of 2,500 m2, including the following items: Memorial House (traditional house), ceremony yard (serving the Mon Son-Luc Da festival on April 15 every year), gate, parking lot and fence. The total estimated cost of the project is up to nearly 9 billion VND. The completed project, in addition to serving the festival and educating revolutionary traditions, is also a tourist attraction for visitors from near and far on tours to explore Pu Mat National Park. From there, visitors have more opportunities to learn more about the landscape and people of Mon Son, a locality awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State.

Mon Son people are very proud because Muong Qua field is not only the rice granary of the commune but also of the whole Con Cuong district. In recent years, the State has built a system of canals for irrigation, farmers have soon applied science and technology to cultivation, used new rice varieties, so the productivity and output of rice have continuously increased, life is increasingly prosperous.

People here have enjoyed grid electricity since 1995, the nearly 30 km road connecting to the district center has been paved, so economic and social exchanges have become extremely convenient. The commune health station has been invested in and built spaciously, the staff and employees have been well-trained, meeting the needs of medical examination and treatment and primary health care for the people. Concepts and bad customs about basic medical examination and treatment have been pushed back. In particular, the general education system in Mon Son has been invested in and built completely from preschool, primary, secondary to high school. Children of school age are all able to go to school, Muong Qua children are now present at universities and colleges across the country.

Mon Son land is home to 3 ethnic groups: Thai, Kinh and Dan Lai. Each ethnic group has its own characteristics but always shows solidarity, contributing to building Muong Qua to become more and more rich, prosperous, and diverse in cultural identity.

The Dan Lai ethnic group has a tragic legend, being chased away and having to flee to a remote area at the headwaters of Khe Khang. About 10 years ago, the Dan Lai people's life was mainly hunting and gathering. With the attention of the Party and the State through the project "Preservation and sustainable development of the Dan Lai ethnic group", their lives are improving day by day. Nearly 50 households have moved to resettle in Tan Son and Cua Rao villages, Mon Son commune. After nearly 10 years of "leaving the source", they have truly had a new life. Many people have mastered the techniques of planting and fertilizing rice and corn, cassava, and acacia. At the same time, many households have invested in developing breeding and meat pigs, and developing buffalo and cattle breeding, and their material and spiritual lives have been significantly improved. As for households in Co Phat and Khe Bung villages, at the headwaters of Khe Khang, their lives are also gradually changing. The soldiers of Border Post 555 take turns "working together" with the people, reclaiming land for production and guiding them to grow rice, so many households have ensured self-sufficiency in food, and backward customs are gradually being eliminated. It can be said that the Dan Lai people in Mon Son are abandoning their sad past to build a new life.

The Thai people have the largest population and are the oldest residents. Because during the migration from North to South, when they came to Muong Qua valley and saw the fertile land, the ancestors of today's Thai people decided to stop and open a village. After dozens of generations, the people still preserve the traditional cultural identity of the nation. On holidays, throughout the villages, the sounds of the flute, the sound of the flute, the sound of the gong and the sound of the gong are heard. In particular, Muong Qua women not only sing well and dance beautifully, but are also good at weaving, embroidering and preparing dishes.

If you have the opportunity to come to Muong Qua, visit the historical site of Mr. Vi Van Khang's house and the Con Chua banyan tree to better understand the heroic and resilient fighting tradition of the people here. Stop to admire the scenery and villages to see the rich beauty and increasingly prosperous and beautiful countryside of a revolutionary land.
