On the morning of August 29, in Hanoi, many domestic and international reporters attended the international press conference announcing the President's decision to pardon on the occasion of National Day, September 2 this year. The press conference was organized by the Office of the President in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme People's Court and relevant agencies. Accordingly, 10,244 prisoners serving prison sentences and 291 people whose prison sentences are being postponed or temporarily suspended will be pardoned on this occasion.

Announcing the President's amnesty decision, Mr. Giang Son - Deputy Head of the President's Office affirmed: Amnesty is a regular practice in Vietnam, stemming from the humanitarian nature of the Party and the State. This year's amnesty decision was signed by the President on August 25. Previously, the Central Amnesty Advisory Council, including many ministries and branches, carried out many activities to ensure that the amnesty consideration was carried out in accordance with the law.

Mr. Giang Son also announced that the process of considering special pardons in prisons is strict, public, strict, democratic, fair, and targeted to the right subjects. The special pardon policy is not only reflected in early release from prison but also continues to be reflected in creating conditions for pardoned people to reintegrate into the community.

According to Mr. Giang Son, like previous amnesties, this amnesty does not discriminate or restrict any prisoners, whether they are Vietnamese or foreign nationals, if they meet the conditions prescribed by law.

Next, representatives of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered a number of questions from domestic and international reporters about this year's amnesty. According to the President's decision, from today, prisons nationwide will begin to announce the President's amnesty decision.
