Overview of the press conference
Director Luu Vu Hai reported on press activities nationwide and in the Central Highlands region. The country currently has 748 press agencies with 1,052 publications; in terms of spoken and visual newspapers, there are 67 radio and television stations, 46 electronic newspapers and 7 electronic magazines from the Central to the local level. Of which, 19 provinces in the area have 60 print press agencies (21 newspapers and 39 magazines), 19 local radio and television stations, 3 regional TV stations; 8 electronic newspapers and magazines, 25 electronic information pages. The press agencies have 1,734 reporters with press cards (787 print newspapers, 947 radio and television).
The outstanding advantage of the press in the region is that it has strictly followed the orientation and information direction of the press management and direction agencies; closely followed the objectives and purposes, informed the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, effectively propagated Resolution 11 of the Government on curbing inflation, stabilizing the macro-economy, ensuring social security, protecting sovereignty over seas and islands and local political tasks, meeting the information needs of the people. Nghe An Newspaper was evaluated as having good propaganda about the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, Learning and following Uncle Ho, propagating about seas and islands and the forum of Vietnamese people giving priority to using Vietnamese goods.
However, the report also pointed out the limitations of the press, which lacked many sharp articles with great orientation and provided forecasts, recommendations, and solutions for local socio-economic development. The propaganda content on New Rural Areas in some newspapers was not timely. A few press agencies, news, and articles still had errors in writing style, design, article layout, and photos were not reasonable, and there were many technical errors. Some newspapers reflected an imbalance between positive and negative, with a lot of information lacking in selection; on some electronic newspapers, the news was fast but there was still a lot of inaccurate information, exploiting sensational stories, offensive images, and advertising violations; 1 reporter of the Literature and Arts Magazine of the Ministry of Information and Communications was disciplined for copyright infringement. There were changes in management, but some Departments of Information and Communications were still confused in building regulations, and when promulgated, they were not in accordance with the Press Law.
Acknowledging the additions of some delegates of the Department of Information and Communications and the press, Deputy Minister Do Quy Doan noted that the press in the region needs to improve the quality of its staff, professional ethics and expertise, do a good job of propagating and bringing resolutions of Party congresses at all levels into life, well implement Directive 03 of the Politburo to regularly propagate typical examples of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example; Resolution 11 of the Government; complete the tasks of 2011; affirm sovereignty over seas and islands; be cautious when raising sensitive issues about the East Sea, fishermen, finance, currency, prices; pay attention to propaganda against epidemics, natural disasters, food safety and hygiene to prevent accidents and traffic jams; management agencies implement regulations on speaking and providing information to the press; strengthen inspection, rectification, and strictly handle violations in local press activities.
