Palestine calls on the "Quartet" to clarify the resumption of peace talks.

Xinhua News Agency and Voice of Russia quoted Nabil Shaath, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), speaking in Ramallah on October 2nd, calling on the "Quartet" on Middle East peace (comprising Russia, the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union) to clearly define a statement on resuming the peace process between Israel and Palestine.

According to Shaath, the Palestinian leadership positively assessed the mediation initiative, but it remains unclear whether the "Quartet" can secure an end to Israeli settlement activity as a condition for resuming negotiations.
Last weekend, the Palestinian Authority officially submitted its application for full membership status in the United Nations.

Subsequently, representatives of the "Quartet," including Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, called on Israelis and Palestinians to begin negotiations within a month to prepare for the resumption of the peace process.

Meanwhile, a senior Palestinian official, speaking on condition of anonymity on October 1, said the Palestinian leadership had decided to intensify its domestic and foreign activities in the coming days to advance its efforts to gain full membership in the United Nations.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will undertake an international tour this week to seek the greatest possible support for the aforementioned effort.
