Vietnamese female weightlifter My Linh wins world gold medal.
On October 6th, 40-year-old female weightlifter Nguyen Thi My Linh brought home two gold medals for the Vietnamese team in the 52 kg weight category at the Asian and World Championships currently taking place in Bangkok (Thailand).
After winning the Asian Championships, an hour later, My Linh defeated You Mi Hee (South Korea) to win the world gold medal.
Speaking to VnExpress.net by phone from Thailand, head coach Huynh Anh said that weightlifter My Linh's double gold medal win was impressive. "Although it was part of Vietnam's plan to win medals at this competition, My Linh's two gold medals were somewhat unexpected. My Linh had an outstanding day of competition," Coach Huynh Anh said.

Vietnamese bodybuilder My Linh won gold medals at the Asian Championships in 2005 and 2006, and silver medals at the Asian Championships in 2004, 2007, and 2009 in the under-52 kg category. In 2008, this female bodybuilder from Ho Chi Minh City was banned from competing for one year by the Asian Bodybuilding Federation (ABBF) for doping-related offenses before the Asian Championships.
At the Asian Men's Championships, hopeful Nguyen Van Lam only won a bronze medal in the 65kg category. Meanwhile, weightlifter Le Hoai Thuong won a silver medal in the 65kg category at the youth competition.
Earlier, on the first day of competition, weightlifter Pham Van Mach brought home a gold medal for the Vietnamese team at the Asian Championships in the 55 kg weight category.
After two days of competition in Bangkok, Thailand, the Vietnamese bodybuilding team excellently won 3 gold medals (2 Asian gold medals and 1 world gold medal), 5 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals.
On the final day of the competition today, October 7th, Vietnamese weightlifters will compete in the remaining events, with My Tram having the potential to challenge for the Asian championship title.
