(Baonghean) - It was because of the weakness of the Nguyen Dynasty that the French colonialists invaded Vietnam in the mid-19th century, causing much pain and sorrow to the nation. Although many uprisings broke out, and national salvation associations such as Dong Du and Duy Tan appeared, all failed due to the lack of a suitable revolutionary path. In the summer of Tan Hoi (1911), Nguyen Tat Thanh, a son of Nghe An, went abroad to find a way to "Save the country, save the people" in European, Asian, American countries,... Thirty years later, in the spring of Tan Ty (1941), with a new name, Nguyen Ai Quoc, he returned to the Fatherland to directly lead the revolution in the country, aiming to overthrow colonial feudalism to liberate the nation.

The coup on March 9, 1945, Japan ousted France in Indochina, causing two million of our people to starve to death. Bao Dai, despite having been trained in France, after exactly 10 years as a lackey, immediately "changed teachers, changed masters", considered himself "a part" of Greater East Asia, determined to cooperate with Japan.

On August 19, 1945, the Viet Minh under the leadership of the Party carried out a General Uprising to regain power from the Japanese fascists, forcing Bao Dai to abdicate and hand over the seal and sword to the representative of the Viet Minh Headquarters in Hue on August 30, 1945. Bao Dai became a citizen of Vinh Thuy and was invited by President Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi to be the supreme advisor to the provisional government.

This was a unique decision, full of humanity, humanism, tolerance, and altruism of President Ho Chi Minh with a pro-French, then pro-Japanese king to fight against the Viet Minh, against the nation and the inevitable development of history.

Welcoming the Year of the Dog in 1946, the first Independence Day of the nation, President Ho gave Queen Nam Phuong, wife of Vinh Thuy, ten thousand Indochinese piastres for her advisor (who was in Hue) to spend during the New Year. Mrs. Nam Phuong was touched and thanked Uncle Ho and she immediately transferred this large sum of money to an orphanage to help orphans celebrate Tet.

Not only that, at the end of 1945, during a business trip of Minister Le Van Hien to the South, President Ho assigned him to represent the Government to visit the two widows of King Thanh Thai and King Duy Tan and decided to give each of them a monthly allowance of 500 Indochinese piastres for monthly living expenses.

Another political event speaks of President Ho Chi Minh's kindness to a former royal relative of the Nguyen Dynasty (son of Khai Dinh, father of scholar Buu Hoi and uncle of advisor Vinh Thuy). In the Viet Bac resistance zone in 1948, President Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter to Mr. Ung Uy and invited him to join the resistance. After reading Uncle Ho's heartfelt letter, Mr. Ung Uy sincerely told the representative of the Thuan Hoa Resistance Administrative Committee: "Uncle Ho is truly benevolent. He saved my nephew (Bao Dai) from death and even made him a supreme advisor, but now he accepts to be a lackey of the French with the humiliating position of head of state..." The prince sighed and continued to speak to the government representative:

"For a long time, I have wanted to join the Viet Minh front but have not been able to; now is the opportunity to ask for permission to directly stand in the resistance ranks, following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh against foreign invaders and traitors who sell out the country.

Prince Ung Uy's going to the resistance base to participate in the resistance war at President Ho's invitation was the inevitable result of a beautiful image, of the policy of great national unity initiated by President Ho Chi Minh...

From the humanity, tolerance, and altruism of President Ho Chi Minh towards himself and towards the people of the Royal Dynasty, in an interview with French Television in the early 90s in Paris, Bao Dai praised and said good words about President Ho: "President Ho Chi Minh is more than a patriot, he is a man with national spirit, a great patriot. In addition, we also see in him infinite tolerance and great humanity towards everyone, especially towards those who have committed crimes against the Fatherland when they know how to repent...".
