(Baonghean.vn)Mr. Cao Tien Dung from Tan Ho hamlet, Tan Long commune, invested in the first agricultural product drying machine in Tan Ky district, helping farmers in four communes: Giai Xuan, Tan Long, Nghia Hoan, and Nghia Thai in drying their agricultural products.

We arrived in Tan Long during a long rainy period and met Mr. Cao Tien Dung, born in 1977, who was maintaining a drying machine. He confided: "The people around here mainly rely on agriculture, growing cassava and corn, but they are often pressured by traders to sell their products at low prices because they have to sell them immediately after harvesting, otherwise they will spoil. In 2010, I received a loan of 100 million VND from the Tan Ky District Branch of the Policy Bank. Along with my savings, I went to Hanoi to buy an agricultural drying machine worth over 380 million VND to serve the people. This type of machine mainly uses Vietnamese technology and has a drying capacity of 5 tons per batch in 5-6 hours."

Mr. Ngo Xuan Binh, head of Tan Ho hamlet, said: "Currently, Tan Ho hamlet has over 20 hectares of high-yield cassava, and my family alone has 3 hectares of high-yield cassava, achieving a yield of about 15 tons/ha, intercropped with rubber trees."

All the products are brought to Mr. Dung's factory for drying, allowing him to control market prices and eliminating concerns about price manipulation by traders. The drying fee for each ton of cassava is 200,000 VND, a reasonable price. Mr. Dung said: "The agricultural drying facility only operates for more than 3 months a year, mainly serving the high-yield cassava and corn harvest season. Mr. Dung's facility provides employment for over 10 seasonal workers... Currently, it has attracted agricultural products from almost all four communes: Giai Xuan, Tan Long, Nghia Hoan, and Nghia Thai, with approximately over 600 hectares of cassava and corn brought to the facility for drying."

To facilitate his work, Mr. Dung established a company called Dung Phuong Co., Ltd. Besides processing and drying agricultural products for local farmers, he also organizes the purchase of their products at reasonable prices.

Mr. Phan Thanh Tu, Director of the Tan Ky District Branch of the Social Policy Bank, said: "The agricultural product drying machine model of Dung Phuong Co., Ltd. has contributed to promoting intensive farming and increasing the production area of crops such as cassava, peanuts, and corn in the four communes. It has also helped exploit the potential of barren land on the hillsides and along the Con River. The branch is continuing to survey communes with large areas of peanut, corn, and cassava cultivation to invest in agricultural product drying machine models to help farmers dry their products proactively in the consumption process."
