Harvesting cassava to escape floods in Nam Dan

(Baonghean) –Due to floodwaters from upstream, more than 500 hectares of cassava of farmers in Nam Loc commune (Nam Dan district, Nghe An) have been submerged for 3 days, at risk of total loss.

Taking advantage of the time when the rain stopped, people gathered in the fields, rented boats and vehicles, mobilized manpower, and urgently harvested young cassava in the fields along the Lam River. Under the rain and deep floodwaters, people waded through the floodwaters and cold rain to harvest young cassava, in order to salvage the fruits of nearly a year's labor. Because there were no warehouses and no way to process fresh cassava, people sold it at very cheap prices, traders came to the edge of the fields to buy, and farmers also suffered less damage.

Here are some pictures of cassava harvest during flood in Nam Dan

People cross the river to harvest cassava

Pity for years of hard work, despite the danger,
dozens of people drifting on small boats back and forth across the water
vast cassava harvest

Big and small houses, all put together, sell together, enjoy happiness together, share misfortune together!

The fruits of labor were piled up beside the floodwaters.

Traders promptly purchased cassava on the spot in the rain.
