(Baonghean.vn)"If you want to cross the border, you must build a bridge. If you want your children to be well-educated, you must love their teachers." The tradition of "respecting teachers and valuing education" has become a beautiful cultural trait of the Vietnamese people for generations.MaleOn the occasion of November 20 and the beginning of the new year, generations of students excitedly invite each other to visit and wish a happy new year to their teachers' families.

The tradition of respecting teachers and valuing education has existed since ancient times. In feudal times, before sending their children to school, parents prepared a tray of offerings to pay homage to their ancestors, hoping that their children would study well and pass exams. After that, the family had a "small ceremony" of "sincerity" to offer to the teacher. To show their respect for "respecting teachers and valuing education", many families also sent their children to study and live with their teachers. In the past, students were not only very humble and respectful of their teachers, but also had great responsibilities and obligations. When going out, they had to take off their hats and clasp their hands in greeting; when the teacher was old and weak, fellow students had to prepare a funeral coffin... Nowadays, the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing education is not bound by etiquette but comes from the hearts and feelings of generations of students towards their teachers.

Associate Professor, Dr., Meritorious Student Nguyen Dinh Noan, former Head of the Physics Department of Vinh University, has contributed to the cause of "cultivating people" for more than half a century - 56 years of career, 48 years of party membership. He has received many certificates of merit, medals, and commemorative medals from the province, ministries, branches, and the Central Government, but perhaps the reward that the Associate Professor values most is the affection and respect of his students. Every year, on Vietnam Teachers' Day, whether they are first-year students or their descendants; whether they live near or far from the Fatherland, they always turn to their teachers. These days, the house located deep in the small hamlet, nestled at the foot of Quyet mountain is quiet and bustling. Teachers there, students here, friends of the same age meet again to chat about their school days, the time of "...third-year students" with mischievous and destructive acts that upset their teachers.

In the guestbook that he still keeps, there are lines full of affection, sincerity, and respect that many generations have for him. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Huan - former Principal of Vinh University, confided: "Mentioning teacher Noan is mentioning a life devoted to students, passionate about his career. Although he was a scientist with many contributions, he was very close, always popularizing scientific knowledge with the community. He had an exemplary family and he was a shining example. Being sincere and open with friends, always helping people is also a prominent beauty in his personality".

Our province currently has 118 teachers who have been awarded the title of People's Teacher, Excellent Teacher, many teachers have achieved the title of Excellent Teacher, Excellent Homeroom Teacher. Teacher Tran Van Nga - teacher at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, 35 years old, 10 years of experience, but under his guidance, many generations of students at Phan Boi Chau School have achieved many high achievements in the country and in the world. Most of the students in his class have passed the entrance exams to prestigious universities in the country, many have been selected to enter the gifted classes of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and received scholarships to study abroad at famous schools in the US, France, UK, Russia...

Among the students that Mr. Nga has trained, we can mention the following faces: Vo Hoang Bien - participated in the Asian Physics Olympiad in Indonesia (2005); Nguyen Tat Nghia - won 2 Gold Medals (HCV) of the International Physics Olympiad, 1 Gold Medal of the Asian Physics Olympiad; Nguyen Trung Hung - Bronze Medal of the Asian Physics Olympiad. And most recently, Nguyen Huy Hoang won a Gold Medal (Hoang also won 1 of 2 Bronze Medals of the 2011 Asian Physics Olympiad of the Vietnamese delegation), and Nguyen Dinh Hoi won a Silver Medal of the 42nd International Physics Olympiad in Thailand. Most of the students who came to him were poor students, hard-working. Knowing that they were having difficulties, he brought them to his house to tutor them. Near the big exams, teachers and students stayed up from 7 pm tonight until 1-2 am the next morning. Both teachers and students studied and lived together like people in the same family."

Teacher Nga said: "My students are all over the world, but we often communicate or visit each other via phone or internet. The students' successes are always the most meaningful gifts to me."

In an interview, Associate Professor Dr. Van Nhu Cuong once said: "Compared to other professions, teachers have lower incomes, but they always consider themselves the richest: rich in emotions, love, respect from students and trust from parents. During Tet holidays, Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20, when former students come back to visit, older students, or young students, when meeting the person who taught them, they are very polite in greeting "teacher"... Those are sincere feelings that cannot be exchanged for material things."

Teacher Nguyen Bui Voi, in his introduction to the poetry collection "Teachers and Schools", wrote: "Morality and affection, just a few seemingly dry words, are preserved by generation after generation like pure gold of dignity, of lifestyle, of national morality. Without morality, without affection, no matter what material civilization one lives in, humans are just rich animals. Many teachers have returned to dust, some have retired, some are still on the podium... all live forever in the minds of many generations of students".
