(Baonghean) -In recent years, the movement to encourage learning and talent in Nghi Thuy ward (Cua Lo town) has been cared for and promoted. People in this coastal area have paid attention to their children's education. Many families, despite being poor, still take care of their children's education; the number of students dropping out of school has decreased significantly...

Mr. Nguyen Hong Khoa's family (Block 2, Nghi Thuy Ward) lives mainly on the seafaring profession. The family's life depends on the trips out to sea, but all four of his children study at famous universities in Hanoi: the eldest son, Nguyen Hong Thanh, graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology; the second son, Nguyen Hong Duong, graduated from Law University and is currently working at An Binh Bank (Hanoi), the third son has graduated from National University (Hanoi) and the youngest son has just passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Transport. Mr. Nguyen Hong Khoa shared: "The rich leave their children land and houses, but we are poor, so we can only try our best to ensure that our children can study properly and have the knowledge to find a stable career..."

Not only Mr. Khoa's family, but also all families in Nghi Thuy now put their children's education first. The number of families with 3-4 children graduating from university or college is increasing. Typical examples include: Mr. Nguyen Canh Vinh's family (grade 6), Mr. Duong Van Hung's family (grade 10)... In 2011 alone, the whole ward had 1,300 studious families, of which 200 were excellent studious families; 23 children were admitted to universities and colleges.

The movement to encourage learning in clans has been promoted. Currently, 15/17 clans in the ward have a Learning Promotion Board, each clan has an average of 5-10 million VND in learning promotion funds. On the occasion of Lunar New Year or the beginning of the new school year, clans organize to give awards to their children and grandchildren. In particular, the "Learning Promotion Tet" is carefully organized by clans: Organizing the first writing ceremony of spring, then offering incense to report to ancestors and giving awards to encourage children and grandchildren to be good and study well in the new year. Typical examples include: Hoang Duc clan, Nguyen Dinh clan, Nguyen Van clan...

In 2002, the Ward Association for the Promotion of Education was established, creating a foundation for the development of the local movement for the promotion of education and talents. In addition to mobilizing the scholarship fund to award excellent students and support poor students, the Association also plays a key role in mobilizing dropout students to return to school. Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Permanent Vice President of Nghi Thuy Ward's Association for the Promotion of Education, said: "Previously, the rate of students dropping out of school in Nghi Thuy was up to 30 students. To get them to go to school, the Association coordinated with organizations and unions to go to each house to mobilize and persuade them and their families. For those who dropped out of school due to difficult circumstances, the Association found ways to help and support them; for those who dropped out of school due to playing around and hanging around, the Association found ways to advise and educate them; for weak students, the Association assigned retired teachers to coordinate with the school to review and tutor them. Up to now, Nghi Thuy no longer has a situation of students dropping out of school; the rate of good and excellent students is increasing. The Ward is recognized as an advanced unit in education...".

Coming to Nghi Thuy today, besides the story of a good fishing season and going out to sea, the fishermen also talked about the education of their children in the ward, about high achievements, about studious families, and families that encourage learning...
