Sparkling "January Stars"
(Baonghean.vn) - Excellent academic performance, good behavior, and outstanding completion of tasks in Youth Union and Student Association activities – these are the common traits of the students who were recently awarded the "January Star" and "5 Good Students" awards by the Vietnam Student Association for the 2011-2012 academic year. These students from Nghe An who received awards are shining stars, beautiful symbols of youth and intellect...
This year, the province has 3 students awarded the "January Star" title by the Central Student Union, 3 students achieving the "5 Good" title, and 36 students receiving Certificates of Merit from the Provincial Student Union. The annual "January Star" award not only recognizes and rewards outstanding students in their studies and training but also serves as a motivation for students to strive for greater achievements. Representing Vinh University as the "January Star" is Tran Quoc Luat (K50, Mathematics Education). Born into a large family with difficult economic circumstances, Luat struggled to make ends meet while studying at university, finding ways to cover his tuition and living expenses: tutoring, product marketing, participating in guest lectures, etc.
There were times when Luat felt she couldn't overcome the difficulties. But her belief in life and her dream of a bright future always motivated her to persevere. During her three years at university, Luat consistently achieved excellent grades and won many important awards: First Prize in the student scientific research activities at Vinh University in the 2010-2011 academic year; First Prize in the 2011 National Student Mathematics Olympiad in Calculus; Gold Medal in the 2011 National Student Mathematics Olympiad; First Prize in the 2011 National Student Mathematics Olympiad in Algebra... And she is currently racing against time to shorten her university program from four years to three years. Not only is she academically gifted, but Luat is also an energetic and enthusiastic student union officer; she is the head of the professional group of the Mathematics Faculty's student union and the Head of the Editorial Board of the Faculty's Student Mathematics journal. She was once recognized as a "5 Good Student" at the provincial level. Outstanding Youth at the Provincial Level in 2011. Awarded the "January Star" prize by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association.
Hoang Thi Canh (Nghe An College of Economics and Technology) is well-known for her diligence and thirst for knowledge. For three consecutive years, Canh has been an outstanding student, receiving a scholarship from the school. Canh's secret to academic success is simple: "I take advantage of every opportunity to study. Each subject requires a different approach." Canh is also an energetic, enthusiastic, and exemplary Youth Union Secretary.
For an average student, achieving good academic results is difficult, but for the "January Stars," it's truly admirable that they excel academically while also being outstanding Youth Union and Student Association officers. Nguyen Duc Luan (Vinh University of Technology and Education) is a prime example. As a member of the Executive Committee of the University's Student Union; Head of the Electronics Department's Student Union; and in charge of the volunteer youth team at the SOS Children's Village, his Youth Union and Student Association activities occupy a significant amount of his time, yet his academic performance remains excellent. Luan has a high GPA of 8.33. Despite being busy with Youth Union work and his studies, Luan still finds time to participate in competitions organized by various levels of the Youth Union and Student Association. With his achievements and academic results, Luan has received a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee and a Certificate of Commendation from the Provincial Youth Union.
Unable to hide her pride upon receiving the "Excellent Student" title from the Vietnam Student Union, Nguyen Thuy Dung (K49B1-Finance and Banking, Vinh University) shared: "Receiving this title is a source of pride. To achieve this result today, besides my own efforts, I must acknowledge the role of the Youth Union and Student Association in the school. The Youth Union movement and the Student Association's work have helped me mature and created opportunities for me to contribute..." Over the years, the Vinh University Student Union has organized many activities to support students and create an environment for them to assert themselves: organizing academic achievement conferences at the beginning of each academic year; establishing a student support fund to provide scholarships for poor students; seeking resources to support students in scientific research; maintaining the youth innovation movement among students... At the same time, activities such as: supporting students during exam season, summer volunteering; social activities... have been organized in many diverse forms, attracting a large number of students to participate. Through these movements, many students have been able to develop their talents and strengths, demonstrating the courage, initiative, and volunteer spirit of youth.
Given the unique characteristics of students at a vocational school, the Vietnam-Korea College of Technology's Youth Union has employed various methods to foster a spirit of learning and volunteerism among its students. The school has encouraged teachers and students, after graduation and securing stable employment and income, to contribute to the school's scholarship fund to support underprivileged students in their studies.
These scholarships, given with heartfelt generosity, have empowered students to excel and achieve high academic results. To ensure stable employment for graduates, the Board of Directors, in collaboration with the Student Union, partners with businesses to provide career counseling and job placement services. The established Science Research Club has actively supported students in their studies. Students participating in the club receive guidance on methods and funding for their graduation projects and scientific research topics. These topics, with practical applications, can be applied to teaching or production and assembly into products for sale. Outstanding students are admitted to the Party and retained by the university. In the past academic year alone, four students were admitted to the Party and four were retained by the university; 99% of graduates have stable employment with an income of 3 million VND per month or more.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, the Student Union of Vinh University of Technology and Education organized the program "Students 2012 - An Intellectual Playground for Humorous Geniuses". This playground actively contributed to building a movement for learning, training, and developing comprehensive skills for students. Mr. Nguyen Cong An, President of the Student Union, said: "In addition to academic clubs and regular activities, the University's Youth Union and Student Union also organize activities that develop life skills, soft skills, and comprehensive education for students. This helps them have an environment to participate and express themselves..."
Through practical and meaningful activities, student organizations at universities and colleges have become a support system, creating a "launching pad" for each student to have the opportunity to "shine". During the past academic year, the province had 45 outstanding students and 374 excellent students who were commended and rewarded at various levels; 15 students graduated with excellent grades, and 236 students graduated with good grades; 1,325 students participated in Party orientation classes; including 283 new student Party members.
