Attending the meeting were Mr. Ho Ngoc Sy - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives of a number of provincial departments and branches.
Nghe An is the only province in the country chosen to implement agricultural insurance in both areas. Up to now, the province has established Steering Committees in 6 districts and 115 communes, registered subjects and pilot areas of insurance (BH). Specifically: rice crop insurance on a district-wide scale in Yen Thanh, Dien Chau and Quynh Luu; buffalo, cow and pig insurance on a commune-wide scale in 9 communes of Do Luong, Thanh Chuong and Tuong Duong districts. The Steering Committee has coordinated propaganda and organized training to the communes participating in the pilot; trained in insurance techniques for agricultural insurance agents, and synthesized the number of livestock and productivity, area, and number of rice-growing households in localities participating in insurance.
In the coming time, Nghe An will conduct training on the distribution system, provide training on policies and rules for livestock insurance for pilot districts, and organize households to register for rice crop insurance before implementing the 2012 spring crop production. The Steering Committee also recommended to the Ministry of Finance a number of issues such as policies to support damage caused by natural disasters and epidemics in addition to the amount paid by the insurance agency, and promptly provide operating funds for Steering Committees at all levels and insurance fees.
