On January 10, VinaPhone announced that it had completed upgrading and expanding its network, adding base transceiver stations (BTS), optimizing switchboards, and was ready to meet the sudden increase in demand for mobile information services during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

To date, VinaPhone has over 23,500 base transceiver stations, covering the whole country. The network has also installed over 1,000 3G BTS stations and covered 3G nationwide, supplementing and increasing the network capacity of the previous 2G network.

3G technology has the ability to transmit traffic 100 times faster than traditional 2G stations, so it can accommodate many subscribers using the service at the same time, thereby significantly reducing the possibility of network congestion. VinaPhone affirms that internal network congestion is unlikely to occur.

In addition, to ensure information security and network capacity in preparation for Christmas, New Year and Lunar New Year, since October 2011, VinaPhone has proactively upgraded the network and checked the network's safety, focusing on provinces where traffic often increases during the annual Tet holiday.

The new feature of VinaPhone's solutions for Tet 2012 is to be ready for the sudden increase in demand for 3G network to transmit and share images and videos with relatives and friends during Tet and festivals.

With the current network capacity, VinaPhone can meet 200-300% of the daily demand for mobile information services. The switchboard system has also been upgraded to be ready to meet the needs of about 50 million active subscribers. VinaPhone's messaging system is assessed by experts to have the largest capacity in Vietnam today, capable of transmitting 30 million SMS/hour. Currently, VinaPhone has more than 30 million active subscribers on the network.

To overcome local network congestion due to large crowds at festival and fair locations, VinaPhone has also proactively arranged 60 specialized mobile vehicles to respond to information at locations that are likely to cause congestion during New Year's Eve. Company staff are also assigned to work 24/7 during Tet to ensure smooth communication. Partner companies have sent experts to work together with VinaPhone to monitor the system.

However, to celebrate Tet together with more joy, VinaPhone recommends that customers work with the network to prevent congestion by taking measures such as when a call cannot be made, users should wait a few minutes before calling back; when sending New Year greetings messages at New Year's Eve or on the morning of the first day of Tet, do not send a message to too many phone numbers at the same time./.
