Quynh Luu Youth Volunteer Force Team: Getting rich from 3 main crops
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite many difficulties, for more than 10 years, the Youth Volunteer Corps of Quynh Luu district has always been attached to pineapple, cassava and sugarcane. Thanks to these three main crops, the members of the Corps have had a high income and become rich.
The family of Mr. Ho Van Dai and Ms. Pham Thi Tam, from Quynh Hoa commune, started their business in 2002. Being hard-working and diligent, and receiving help from the team in terms of seeds, capital, science and technology, and stable output, they invested in 5 hectares of pineapple cultivation.
In addition to pineapple, Mr. Dai's family also grows 4 hectares of cassava and some other vegetables. Pineapple and cassava adapt very well to the natural conditions of the Tan Thang mountainous area, so the average yield of 1 hectare of pineapple is usually 50 - 60 tons/ha and cassava is 22 - 25 tons/ha. With the current market price, each ton of pineapple is stable at about 2 million VND, cassava 550,000 VND/ton, bringing the family a fairly high income. Mr. Dai said: "I came here to start a business in 2002, it has been 8 years now, mainly growing pineapple and cassava. In previous years, the income was low, this year it was 70 - 80 tons, the income was 100 million VND after expenses".

Identifying pineapple, sugarcane and cassava as suitable crops, with high productivity and stable and long-term output, since its establishment, the Quynh Luu District Youth Volunteer Team has always focused on directing and promoting the production of these raw materials. To help team members boldly develop the economy and strive to get rich, in addition to supporting seeds, fertilizers and capital, the team also regularly conducts scientific and technical training, introduces new models, quality varieties, and finds output to help team members feel secure in production. Having gone through many difficulties, but with the determination of youth, the will to rise up, not afraid of difficulties and hardships, many youth union members of the Quynh Luu Youth Volunteer Team have built effective economic models.
Currently, the number of households with income from 50 million VND/year or more accounts for nearly 50%. Thanks to pineapple, sugarcane and cassava, the total annual income from raw materials of the team is always at a high level. In 2011 alone, it reached 7 billion VND, accounting for 85% of the income from cultivation. Mr. Le Cong Thu - Captain of the Youth Volunteer Team of Quynh Luu district said: "The Youth Volunteer Team of Quynh Luu district produces raw materials to serve the pineapple concentrate factories and Quy Hop Sugar Factory, the life of the members is increasingly improving.
