Morning exercise is a good habit and very beneficial for health. However, if we are not careful, we can get sick because of doing morning exercise incorrectly.

Recently, Ms. Nguyen Thi Q., 67 years old (Thanh Tri, Hanoi), suffered from severe sinusitis relapse due to excessive exercise.

Trade health for illness

Usually in winter the ideal time to exercise is around 7am. Do not exercise in the morning when the weather is below 20 degrees Celsius.

Ms. Q. was a member of a health club and hardly missed any practice sessions. One morning, as usual, she woke up early and went to the yard to wait for everyone. Hanoi was quite cold, as if cutting through flesh. It didn't matter, the colder it was, the more you practice, the more you train. She thought so. Because of the cold, she waited for almost an hour before enough members were available to practice. After that practice session, she went home and felt very strange. Tired, lethargic, headache, forehead pain, nasal cavity pain. And even stranger, her nose kept running, and she kept sneezing. Only a few hours later, she had a fever. Around noon, she had to go to Hospital 103 (Hanoi) for a check-up. The doctor said she had recurrent sinusitis due to a cold and needed treatment.

Unlike Ms. Q., Ms. Nguyen Thi Kh., 68 years old, from Ha Dong, Hanoi, suffered from rheumatism due to improper morning exercises. On a cold day in Hanoi, she still went out to exercise early. Having suffered from rheumatism before, her knee started to have problems. On the first day, she felt pain in her knee. But on the second day, her knee was swollen and felt like there was water inside. On the third day, she could no longer exercise because she could not move her leg. After going to the Military Traditional Medicine Hospital, she realized that she had a relapse of acute rheumatism due to the morning cold.

Standard principles

We can only be healthy if and only if we do morning exercises properly. To do so, practitioners need to note:

1. Exercise in the morning when you have had enough sleep. If you exercise in the morning when your body has not had enough sleep, your brain has not been fully restored, which will only make your mind more stressed and tired. Get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a day before you intend to exercise in the morning.

2. Do not exercise too early or too late. At too early, the body is still in a state of rest and relaxation, the nervous and endocrine systems are at their nighttime characteristics. Exercising too early will disrupt the normal biological rhythm. If it is too late, the weather temperature is quite high, no longer fresh and cool for breathing. Therefore, exercising too early or too late is not effective. Therefore, people who exercise should not wake up before 5 o'clock and later than 9 o'clock.

3. Practice continuously as a process. Don't practice according to inspiration. Training gradually increases the body's ability to endure and respond to the environment. But the ability to endure and respond will automatically return to zero when we rest for a while. Therefore, if you practice half-heartedly, it's better not to practice at all.

4. Do not exercise when it is too cold. Usually, the cool morning air is very beneficial for physical exercise to improve health. However, if you exercise when it is too cold, it is not good at all. When running and exercising, the body loses a lot of heat and inhales a lot of air. If you exercise when it is too cold, the body loses even more heat and is susceptible to catching a cold.

At the same time, inhaling a lot of cold air can easily cause respiratory infections such as rhinopharyngitis, sinusitis, and bronchitis. Therefore, people who exercise should choose a warm time, especially in cold weather. The most favorable time is 25-27 degrees Celsius. If the weather is cold, it is from 20-22 degrees Celsius, people who exercise should wear enough warm clothes and wait until the sun comes up to exercise.
