The person who brought Ho Chi Minh's morality into Buddhism
"President Ho Chi Minh's wish was for his descendants to have freedom, equality, enough food and clothing, and education. Buddhist teachings ultimately hope for the same. I hope to do many good deeds for everyone to see and follow..." Those are the words of Venerable Thich Thong Hanh, abbot of Long An Tu pagoda, Binh Thanh hamlet, Long Binh commune, Long My district, Hau Giang province.
Venerable Thich Thong Hanh, real name Nguyen Van Son. In 1992, he attended courses of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha that lasted more than 7 years. In 2000, Venerable Hanh was assigned to Binh Thanh hamlet, Long Binh commune, to preside over Long An Tu pagoda. When visiting the pagoda, visitors are very interested in a library of hundreds of books on Buddhist teachings, especially books on Ho Chi Minh's morality. "During my time studying Buddhist teachings, I studied Ho Chi Minh's moral thought. The movement to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example has been and is entering people's lives and hearts. As a monk, I feel responsible for guiding Buddhists to study and follow Uncle Ho to strive to become good citizens..." Venerable Hanh confided.
Therefore, at the temple ceremonies, in addition to propagating Buddhist teachings, Master Hanh always integrates Ho Chi Minh's moral thoughts for Buddhists to listen to, telling stories about Uncle Ho's thoughts and morality, sometimes simple and meaningful stories about Uncle Ho with the poor, with soldiers, life's morals, what he has collected about Ho Chi Minh's morality, at the same time advising Buddhists to learn and follow him to become useful people for society.
In addition, Master Hanh also mobilized Buddhists and philanthropists to build nearly 10 houses, including 5 solidarity houses and 2 charity houses, with a total amount of nearly 100 million VND for the poor. He also built a bridge and supported social security with a total amount of more than 350 million VND.
Coming to the house of Mr. Ngo Van Cu, Binh Thanh hamlet, Long Binh commune - a household that Mr. Hanh mobilized people to contribute money to build a solidarity house, Mr. Cu said: "Thanks to Mr. Hanh, my family has a spacious house, no longer worried about storms. We are very grateful to Mr. Hanh". As for the lonely elderly people in Binh Thanh hamlet, they really like the teacher because he often visits and encourages them, especially the poor...
With his practical work, from 2009 to present, Mr. Hanh has always received certificates of merit from Hau Giang province in implementing the campaign "All people unite to build cultural life in residential areas" and the campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh".
The good news spread far and wide, so every holiday, hundreds of people from all over the country came to Long An Temple. Some people traveled all the way from Ho Chi Minh City just to see the teacher.
