Faced with the situation of many cars and motorbikes catching fire and exploding, since January, the Prime Minister has requested the Ministry of Science and Technology to report on the inspection and monitoring of gasoline quality, and to work with relevant agencies to review the National Technical Regulations on fuel, paying special attention to the composition of additives that affect the ability to cause fire and explosion.

"We have assigned the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality to coordinate with relevant ministries to complete the report and submit it to the Prime Minister next week," said Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan.

Regarding car fires, according to Minister Nguyen Quan, there are manyreasonleading to vehicle fires and explosions, in which determining the exact cause requires the cooperation of vehicle owners with responsible agencies.

Minister Nguyen Quan said that due to the complexity of the issue, the report may not have specified the exact cause of the fire and explosion, but the Ministry has directed units to focus on controlling and ensuring the quality of gasoline and oil, and is organizing a specialized inspection on gasoline and oil quality.

According to scientists, in principle gasoline cannot spontaneously combust even when mixed with additives, so it is necessary to check more information due to external conditions to have a source of fire.

Previously, the Center for Petrochemical Technology and Internal Combustion Engines of the University of Science and Technology conducted an experiment on gasoline mixed with methanol up to 30% at a temperature of 500 degrees Celsius without the ability to spontaneously ignite.
