Greece is ready for new elections

On May 17, the caretaker government in Greece was sworn in to take charge of running the country and organizing a new election after political parties in the country failed to form a coalition government following the results of the May 6 election.

The new election comes amid concerns that a Greek exit from the eurozone could have a negative impact on Spain and Italy - two links currently considered shaky in the eurozone.

According to the results of the poll, conducted for the first time since the failure of talks on forming a government, the conservative New Democracy (ND) party is leading by several points over the far-left Syriza party, which opposes the bailout deals.

Accordingly, the ND party won 26.1% of the votes compared to 23.7% for the Syriza party. In addition, the poll results also show that together with the Socialist Party (Pasok), the New Democracy party will have enough seats to form a government supporting the bailout package, something they failed to do in the election on May 6, forcing Greece to hold a new election and sparking a political crisis as well as doubts about the future of the euro.

European Union (EU) leaders said that without the EU and International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout, Greece would go bankrupt and would certainly have to leave the Eurozone, which would have a negative impact on the financial situation of the entire continent.

The prospect of the Syriza party winning the election on June 17 has caused the euro and markets to decline sharply this week./.
