(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, April 17, under the chairmanship of Comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh - Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council worked with relevant departments, agencies and units on the incident at the Thai Duong foreign pig breeding farm in Dai Son commune, Do Luong district. Also attending were Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Provincial Police, Provincial People's Procuracy, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Thai Duong foreign pig breeding company; Do Luong district and Dai Son commune.
According to the report, environmental pollution at Thai Duong Foreign Pig Farm started in 2006 and peaked at the end of 2011, leading to a group of people from Dai Son commune going to the pig farm to destroy and release pigs from the barn.
Up to this point, the authorities have prosecuted 14 related defendants, of which 1 defendant was released on bail, 13 defendants were detained, and 3 more defendants will be prosecuted soon.
Comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh spoke at the meeting.
The Provincial People's Committee has also issued a document directing relevant agencies and units to organize supervision, inspection, and urging the implementation of the Provincial People's Committee's direction for Thai Duong foreign pig breeding farm to implement environmental treatment solutions and reduce the total herd to 5,000 pigs. However, as of February 3, 2012, through sampling and analysis of wastewater from Thai Duong pig farm, there are still indicators exceeding the permitted level and currently the total herd of pigs at the farm is still more than 8,000 pigs. The problem now is that if the environmental pollution situation at Thai Duong pig farm is not resolved completely, the conflict between people and businesses will become more serious.
Concluding the meeting, comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh suggested: after this meeting, the Provincial People's Committee should continue to work with the enterprise to clarify the requirements, ensuring that the directives of the Provincial People's Committee are effective. The Provincial Police and the Procuracy should promptly classify the subjects and the level of violations to promptly handle the suspects in the incident at the pig farm. It is recommended that Do Luong district and Dai Son commune explain and encourage people to stay calm to gradually resolve the existing problems at the pig farm. On the part of Thai Duong Foreign Pig Breeding Company, it is necessary to strictly comply with the directives of the Provincial People's Committee and the commitments of the enterprise to reassure the people.
After this meeting, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council will directly supervise the Thai Duong Foreign Pig Breeding Farm.
