"King of Areca" Dong Luoc
(Baonghean.vn) -In Dong Luoc hamlet (Kim Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An), if you ask to buy areca nuts, people will point you to the house of Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, a 4/4 disabled veteran. The areca nut garden with thousands of trees has supported Mr. Vinh's family for a long time.
Entering Mr. Vinh's family garden, there are countless areca trees, each tree is laden with bunches. Mr. Vinh introduced: My family has 1 hectare of garden land, more than 10 years ago, I invested in planting 1,000 areca trees on an area of 0.5 hectares. This is a type of areca tree with attached leaves, so it bears bunches and has fruit for sale all year round. Therefore, traders from all over the world come to buy areca all year round. Near Tet or during the wedding season, the demand for areca is high, customers come to buy continuously. Each time they pick several hundred kilograms of fruit, earning millions of dong. It is calculated that each year his family earns nearly 100 million dong from areca.

Mr. Vinh confided that areca is not picky about soil, costs little, is easy to care for, has few pests and diseases, so it is highly economically efficient. With this area, if we planted other trees, we would not earn hundreds of millions of dong each year. Growing areca is both leisurely and creates a clean and beautiful landscape, with stable and long-term income. However, we must plant areca varieties with attached leaves to have a year-round harvest. Thanks to the areca garden, my family has a stable life.
Currently, the areca market is easy to consume, not only sold in the district and province, but many places also build areca drying kilns to sell abroad, so the consumption market is very large. In addition to income from the fruit, areca leaves and sheaths are also used as fuel, or used to make brooms very conveniently.
