Provincial People's Council supervises environmental sector in Vinh City

(Baonghean.vn) -Continuing the monitoring program on "Management, protection and treatment of environmental pollution in the province", this morning, April 16, the Monitoring Delegation of the Economic and Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council had a working session with the People's Committee of Vinh City.

According to the report of Vinh City People's Committee, from July 2006 to the end of March 2012, in addition to applying and implementing the Law on Environmental Protection and legal documents issued by higher-level state agencies, Vinh City People's Committee has issued 12 legal documents directly and indirectly related to the environmental field; has issued 345 certificates of registration of environmental protection commitments to organizations and individuals operating in production, business and services in the area.

In addition, the city has also established 6 inspection teams, inspected over 100 units, handled administrative violations in the field of environmental protection and water resources for 21 units, with a total fine of over 93 million VND. The Environmental Police Team of Vinh City Police, although newly established at the end of 2011, has also inspected 26 units, handled administrative violations with a total fine of over 72 million VND.

The work of handling complaints and denunciations related to environmental issues has also been focused on. The Vinh City People's Committee has resolved 65 cases of complaints and denunciations related to the environmental field. However, in the city, there are still some hot environmental issues that are difficult to resolve, such as: domestic waste treatment in the area, Saigon - Nghe Tinh Brewery, Bac Vinh Industrial Park, etc.

At the meeting, Vinh City leaders proposed: it is necessary to amend and supplement regulations on environmental protection fees; focus resources to speed up the construction progress of Nghi Yen Solid Waste Treatment Complex and solve related issues; implement a project to improve the management capacity and expertise of environmental officers at the commune level...

At the meeting, the Supervisory Delegation acknowledged Vinh City's efforts in the field of environmental protection. The Delegation will summarize Vinh City's opinions and recommendations and report them to the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council. The Delegation also requested Vinh City to continue implementing measures and policies in the field of environmental protection to build Vinh City towards a civilized, modern, green - clean - beautiful city.
