Vietnam's Health Minister Nominated as Harvard Health Leader

Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien was nominated as one of Harvard's 2012 health leaders, along with 15 health ministers from other countries.

From June 3-6, 2012, Vietnamese Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien attended the Harvard Ministerial Health Leaders Forum held at the Massachusetts School of Public Health in the United States.

This is the first time the Harvard Health Ministers Forum has been held at Harvard University in the US. The forum aims to exchange leadership experiences between health ministers around the world, strengthen sustainable health systems, improve health service delivery and health care outcomes.

The forum was attended by famous world leaders such as Ms. Michaell Bachellet, former President of Chile; Executive Director of the UN Women Fund, former Prime Minister of Mozambique and former Ministers of Health of the UK, Turkey, Thailand, India,...


Vietnam's Health Minister Receives Harvard Health Leadership Award 2012

Vietnam's Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien was nominated as one of Harvard's 2012 health leaders, along with 15 health ministers from countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America.

The Ministers nominated for this year's list are leaders with innovative and reformist thinking and demonstrate determination to bring innovative health sector policies into life, contributing to improving people's health.

During this working trip, Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien had a roundtable discussion with American businesses operating in Vietnam on the topic of Public-Private Partnership in Healthcare.

Attending the seminar were representatives of major US corporations such as GE Health Care and GlaxoSmithKline. Enterprises were introduced to the 5-year plan for developing Vietnam's healthcare sector and priorities for the next 2 years, introduced to 5 foreign partner groups providing technical support to the healthcare sector in Vietnam, as well as discussed public-private partnerships in investing in the healthcare system, solving hospital overload, reforming healthcare finance, training healthcare staff and preventing non-communicable diseases.

Previously, Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien also worked with Harvard University and Boston University on cooperation in training medical human resources in Vietnam./.
