During her official visit to Vietnam, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke with students of the Foreign Trade University of Vietnam to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Fulbright scholarship, a US government scholarship for outstanding Vietnamese scholars, and met with Vietnamese businesses at the Vietnam-US Business Forum.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the Fulbright scholarship is a prestigious scholarship of the US Government for scholars in many different fields around the world, including Vietnam. Many Vietnamese students and scholars, after winning Fulbright scholarships to study in the US, have made many contributions to the development of Vietnam in the fields they studied.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton affirmed: “Fulbright is a prestigious scholarship of the US Government around the world. In Vietnam, we believe that the Fulbright scholarship has achieved its mission, which is not only to equip you with the skills that American education can bring but also to create very good relations between Vietnam and the US. The Fulbright scholarship program has helped to increase understanding between the two countries through very clear educational and cultural exchanges, at the same time helping to promote economic growth and development within the framework of expanding bilateral relations between the two countries”.

Over the past 20 years, the Fulbright scholarship program has sent more than 1,000 Vietnamese students, teachers and scholars to the US for advanced study and research. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton affirmed that the Fulbright program will continue to strive to expand its scope, reaching out to many schools and institutes across Vietnam to ensure that scholars and students participating in the program clearly reflect the diversity of regions./.
