(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, June 10, in Vinh City, the Nghe An Province Children's Fund in collaboration with the humanitarian organization Qperation-Smile Surgery opened the "Smile Surgery" program for children with cleft lip and cleft palate at General Hospital 115. The program lasted from June 10 to June 17, 2012. Leaders of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and related departments attended.

Through screening at facilities in 10 districts, cities and towns in the past time, 150 cases of children with cleft lip and cleft palate were selected for surgery in this period. Most of the children are between 6 months and 16 years old, mostly in districts such as Anh Son, Quynh Luu, Nghia Dan... In addition to having to endure physical disabilities, these unfortunate children also have to face mental difficulties in their daily lives.

To help the children overcome these pains, the Operation Smile Volunteer Group will continue to screen and classify, and those cases that are indicated for surgery will be completely free of charge. On average, each surgery is supported with 2.5 million VND. In addition, the children are also supported with food and travel expenses, depending on the geographical location, the distance, each worth from 300,000 - 1 million VND.

In 2011, Qperation-Smile Organization also successfully performed surgery and treatment, bringing smiles to 93 cases of children with cleft lip and cleft palate in the whole province.

This surgery was performed by doctors from the Vietnam-Cuba Hospital and the 115 General Hospital in collaboration, and took place over a period of 7 days, from June 10 to 17. After 3 months, the children who had surgery will be re-examined to assess their recovery level. Those who still have speech difficulties will receive financial support to continue their training.
