(Baonghean.vn) -A thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds and lightning struck a wide area yesterday evening (August 3rd) across the western districts of Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Ky Son. Many locals consider this storm the heaviest of the year, signaling that this year's rainy season and floods will be particularly complex.

In Chi Khe commune, Con Cuong district, the rain lasted only an hour but caused many streams to overflow, turning normally dry roads into waterways. Lightning struck and felled trees along the forest edge, and some houses in Nam Dinh village (Chi Khe, Con Cuong) had their tiled roofs blown off and wooden walls ripped apart by the wind.
Regarding the response to this year's storm situation, Mr. Vi Ngoc Quynh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong District, said that the floods at the end of 2011 caused damage of approximately 71 billion VND to the locality. Con Cuong District has also developed a plan to cope with this year's flood situation, which is predicted to be very complex.
The experience of people in the highlands shows that extreme weather phenomena like the rain last evening indicate that the new rainy season is beginning.
