Bloody shooting in Nigeria, 20 casualties
Sectarian violence continues to haunt Nigerians as on June 10, gunmen attacked a church in Maiduguri city, Borno state in the northeast of the country, killing at least 5 people and injuring 15 others.
Witnesses said three unknown men entered the church and began shooting randomly at people inside. Local authorities have not commented on the incident, only saying that the authorities are investigating.
On the same day, a large explosion also rocked a church in Jos, the capital of Plateau State in central Nigeria. Local police said the explosion killed four people and injured 41. No organization or individual has yet claimed responsibility.
Jos is the crossroads between Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north and its predominantly Christian south, and thousands of people have died in sectarian violence over the past decade.
Previously, on March 11, also at a Catholic church in Jos city, a suicide bomber detonated explosives, killing three people.
The attacks, especially targeting Christians, are raising concerns that religious conflict will erupt in Nigeria./.
