The 5th Congress of Delegates of the War Veterans Association of Nghe An Province - Term 2012-2017

(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, September 18, the Association of War Veterans of Nghe An province held its 5th Congress, term 2012-2017. The Congress was honored to receive a congratulatory flower basket from General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Attending and directing the congress were Major General Do Cong Mui - Vice President of the Vietnam Veterans Association; comrades: Phan Dinh Trac - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Tran Hong Chau - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Hong Nhi - Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee; representatives of the Military Region 4 Command; comrades in the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Standing Committee of the People's Council, People's Committee, leaders of departments, branches, provincial-level unions, districts, cities, towns and 250 typical delegates, representing over 161,000 Veterans Association members in the whole province attended the congress.

During the past term, all levels of the association, cadres and members of the Nghe An Veterans Association have been united, proactive, creative, strived, taken advantage of opportunities, overcome difficulties and challenges, successfully completed the tasks assigned by the Party Committee, and achieved 8/11 targets set out in the Resolution of the 4th Provincial Veterans Association Congress.

During the past term, the Provincial Veterans Association has admitted over 37,000 veterans to the Association, bringing the total number of members to over 161,000, reaching 97%; 100% of hamlets, villages, and blocks have established branches. The Association has focused on building associations in special areas, associations of administrative agencies and state-owned enterprises. The quality of construction and the effectiveness of the Association's activities have progressed evenly. With the spirit of "exemplary veterans joining hands and hearts to build new rural areas", the Association of Veterans in communes has developed plans to participate in implementing a number of criteria, encouraging veterans to "Contribute ideas, contribute labor, contribute land", initially contributing nearly 52,000 working days, donating over 269,000 m2 of land for infrastructure construction; contributing 38 billion VND to the funds: "Repaying gratitude", "Fund for the poor", "Fund for encouraging education", supporting people affected by storms and floods.

In addition, the Association at all levels launched a movement to compete for legitimate enrichment. Up to now, the whole province has 5,947 economic models of all kinds of war veteran members, many models with annual income of 50 million VND or more. There are over 2,600 farms, nearly 1,700 service establishments and enterprises, joint stock companies, and limited liability companies owned by war veterans, operating in many fields. The rate of poor households among members has decreased to 3.75% according to the old criteria, the rate of well-off households has increased from 57.16% in 2008 to 61.53% in 2011.

The Congress also discussed and proposed directions and tasks for the 2012-2017 term and elected the new Executive Committee. The Congress took place from September 17 to 19, 2012.
