Using preservatives beyond the threshold can cause infertility.
Vietnamese scientists have just warned that using imported fruit preservatives exceeding the permitted threshold can cause infertility.
Through testing samples of some fruits such as grapes, plums and pomegranates imported from China and sold on the market, the Plant Protection Department discovered that the above fruit samples contained carbendazim and tebuconazole with residues exceeding the permitted level. These are fungicides used in fruit preservation. Scientists said that if used in excess of the permitted level, it can disrupt the endocrine system, cause infertility and especially affect the genetics of future generations.

Especially the long-term harm is that the next generations are stunted, with slower intellectual development.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hong - Director of the Plant Protection Department said: "I recommend that people should use fruits in season and should not be too panicked or worried because all imported goods into Vietnam are being controlled by the State's functional branches in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law and must ensure food safety and hygiene before being imported."

When arriving at the domestic market, our agents spray the chemicals again to polish and keep vegetables and fruits fresh longer. At the current wholesale markets, the main source of fruits is still imported from China such as pears, apples, oranges, plums, pomegranates... Some Chinese fruits are labeled as imported from Australia and the US such as grapes, plums, pears.
