Immediately after receiving news that the convoy of vehicles carrying Buddhists to attend the memorial service had an accident, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Thao asked the Director of the Hanoi Department of Health to send a delegation of officials to Nghe An to coordinate with doctors at Hospital 115 to treat the victims.


Mr. Nguyen Khac Hien, Director of the Hanoi Department of Health, said that the Department of Health has sent a team including a leader of Xanh Pon General Hospital, a doctor, two nurses, along with medicine and medical equipment to Nghe An to support and treat the victims.

According to sources from Hospital 115, there are currently only 17 seriously injured people being treated at the hospital, the others have been discharged and returned to Hanoi.


Also this morning (August 23), leaders of the Transport, Health, and Traffic Safety Departments of Nghe An province visited and encouraged the victims who were being treated, and supported the deceased with 1 million VND/person and the injured with 500,000 VND/person.


Doctor Dang Van Hung Minh, Department of Trauma Surgery, Hospital 115, said that the hospital also coordinated with Vietnam Aviation Insurance Company and Hanoi Buddhist Spiritual Group to cook porridge for injured victims, serving food and drinks right at the hospital. Apart from the severe cases, many victims have gradually recovered and are able to walk on their own.


Regarding the above incident, yesterday afternoon, Quynh Luu District Police detained driver Mai Truong Giang, residing in Hanoi, who was driving the above car to investigate the cause of the accident.


As reported, at around 4:15 a.m. on August 23, on the Ho Chi Minh road through Truong Ven slope, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province, a serious accident occurred, killing three people and injuring 34 others.

The car involved in the accident had license plate 29B-03629, and was one of 14 cars carrying 600 Buddhists from Hanoi to Quang Tri to hold a memorial service for the martyrs./.
