On August 13, the Cuban people celebrated the 86th birthday of leader Fidel Castro - the outstanding hero of the Cuban revolution (August 13, 1926 - August 13, 2012).

On this day, a series of cultural activities, seminars, photo exhibitions, music festivals, and art performances were held on the "Island of Freedom" and many countries around the world to celebrate the birthday of leader Fidel.

Leaders of many fraternal countries in the region and the world, as well as organizations in solidarity with Cuba, sent congratulatory messages to the legendary leader of the Cuban revolution.

On this occasion, former Cuban Minister of Culture Armando Hart, a close comrade-in-arms of leader Fidel during the revolutionary years, wrote an article in Granma newspaper, highlighting leader Fidel's strategic vision on global issues that affect the survival of humanity.

According to Mr. Hart, leader Fidel was one of the first leaders in the world to research and warn about natural disasters that threaten humanity, and at the same time propose specific actions to prevent dangers before it becomes too late.

Mr. Hart affirmed that thanks to that strategic vision of leader Fidel, today, Cuba is one of the leading countries in protecting the environment, preventing climate change and fighting against threats to human survival, while continuing to promote sustainable development against hunger, poverty and social injustice.

According to Mr. Hart, with a strong will, leader Fidel overcame great health challenges to continue the struggle, albeit on a different level, to protect the ideals he has pursued for decades.

In an article in the “Reflections” column in mid-2007, leader Fidel wrote: “Life without ideals is meaningless. There is nothing happier than fighting for one’s ideals.” Former Minister of Culture Hart concluded that it was his iron will and steadfastness in the ideal of protecting justice not only for Cuba but for all humanity throughout his revolutionary life that made leader Fidel “an invincible fighter and a figure of international stature.”

Born on August 13, 1926 in the town of Biran, Holguin province, Eastern Cuba, leader Fidel Castro is one of the few national leaders who have gone down in history and legend. He is considered one of the most outstanding revolutionaries of the third world in the second half of the 20th century, dedicating his whole life to the ideals of freedom and national liberation. During his 48 years of leading the island nation of Cuba, he always fought against the US embargo and escaped 638 assassination attempts (according to the Guinness Book of Records).

The Cuban people consider him a hero who led the revolution and fought for Cuba's independence. They call him "Dear Leader Fidel" and honor the tireless fighting spirit for the ideals of this "brilliant captain"./.
