Solemnly commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of comrade Vo Chi Cong

On the morning of August 6, in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the National Assembly, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Quang Nam province solemnly held the Ceremony to celebrate the 100th birthday of Chairman of the State Council Vo Chi Cong (August 7, 1912 - August 7, 2012).

On the morning of August 6, in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the National Assembly, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Quang Nam province solemnly held the Ceremony to celebrate the 100th birthday of Chairman of the State Council Vo Chi Cong (August 7, 1912 - August 7, 2012).

President Truong Tan Sang, Deputy Prime Ministers Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Nguyen Thien Nhan, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Huynh Dam, leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and Government through the periods, leaders of ministries, branches and localities, revolutionary veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers and relatives of comrade Vo Chi Cong attended.

At the ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang emphasized that the life and revolutionary career of comrade Vo Chi Cong are closely linked to the revolutionary career of our Party and nation.

With a high sense of responsibility towards the Party and the people, in all positions, comrade Vo Chi Cong has made important contributions. One of those contributions is that he contributed to the promulgation of Directive 100-CT/TW dated January 13, 1981 of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, term IV "On reforming the contracting work, expanding and contracting products to groups and workers in agricultural cooperatives". This was a breakthrough in the agricultural sector in particular and the cause of innovation in general, in which comrade Vo Chi Cong's personal mark was very strong.

As Chairman of the State Council, Comrade Vo Chi Cong has made many contributions to supplementing and perfecting the Constitution and the legal system; together with the Central Executive Committee and the Politburo, he has led the entire Party, people and army to carry out the Doi Moi process, bringing the country out of the socio-economic crisis; strengthening national defense and security, expanding foreign relations; and achieving great achievements of historical significance in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

As one of the outstanding students of President Ho Chi Minh, Comrade Vo Chi Cong wholeheartedly served the Fatherland and the people; lived a simple, modest, thrifty, honest, impartial life, always putting the interests of the Party, the Fatherland, and the people above all else. He was close to and respected the people, loved and trusted by comrades and compatriots, and respected by international friends.

On this occasion, President Truong Tan Sang called on the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people to follow the example of comrade Vo Chi Cong and revolutionary predecessors, strengthen solidarity, unity, dynamism, creativity, seize every opportunity, overcome difficulties and challenges to complete the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, the Resolutions of the Central Executive Committee, especially focusing on successfully implementing the Central Resolution 4 "Some urgent issues on Party building at present" in conjunction with effectively and practically implementing Directive 03-CT/TW of the Politburo on continuing to promote studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh.

The President also called on the entire Party, army and people to seize opportunities, overcome difficulties and challenges, and promote patriotic emulation to continue to gain greater achievements in the cause of industrialization, modernization, and building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.



Comrade Vo Chi Cong (1912-2011)

Comrade Vo Chi Cong's real name is Vo Toan, born on August 7, 1912 in a patriotic intellectual family in Khuong My village, Tam Xuan commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province.
As a person who was aware of the revolution early, participated in the patriotic youth movement at the grassroots level in 1930-1931, in May 1935, comrade Vo Chi Cong was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party. He held positions such as: Secretary of the Provisional Provincial Party Committee of Quang Nam-Da Nang; Deputy of the Organization and Inspection Board of Military Region V; Secretary of the Executive Committee of Northeast Cambodia (Cambodia), and member of the Regional Party Committee of Region V.
In 1952, he continued to serve as Secretary of the Quang Nam-Da Nang Provincial Party Committee. After the 1954 Geneva Agreement, he and the Central Office of the South, the Zone V Party Committee led the army and people of the South and the people of the whole country to successively defeat the enemy's war strategies, leading our people's resistance war against the US to complete victory.
After the country was unified in 1976, comrade Vo Chi Cong took on many important responsibilities, as Deputy Head of the Central Party and Government Representative Board in the South, in charge of Region V. At the 4th, 5th, and 6th National Party Congresses, he was elected to the Central Executive Committee, and was elected by the Central Executive Committee to the Politburo. During the 5th term, he was elected Secretary of the Central Party, Standing member of the Secretariat.
As a National Assembly delegate of the 6th, 7th and 8th terms, comrade Vo Chi Cong was elected by the National Assembly as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Seafood (1976); Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Southern Agricultural Reform Committee (1978), Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (1986); in April 1987, at the 8th National Assembly session, he was elected by the National Assembly as Chairman of the State Council, Chairman of the National Defense Council; he was an advisor to the Party Central Committee of the 7th and 8th terms.
Comrade Vo Chi Cong passed away on September 8, 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 70-year Party membership badge, and many other noble orders and medals by the State.
