US-Myanmar discuss lifting economic sanctions

On October 25 in the capital Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar President U Thein Sein received Mr. NS Wolin, US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury who is visiting the country.

During the meeting, the two men discussed many issues, including the business operations of the Central Bank of Myanmar and the removal of US economic sanctions.

During his two-day visit to Myanmar, Mr. Wolin is also expected to meet with a number of government officials and business people to discuss anti-money laundering solutions in Myanmar and strengthen cooperation with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to facilitate the integration of the country's financial system into the global market.

Mr. Wolin's visit comes after US President Barack Obama authorized financial assistance programs for the Southeast Asian country, which will be implemented by international financial entities such as the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Previously, during the visit to Myanmar from October 17-19 of US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, Myanmar and the US pledged to cooperate in promoting Myanmar's economic and political reforms./.
