Athlete Liu Xiang, a hopeful Chinese athlete in the hurdles event, had to prematurely withdraw from the 2012 Olympics due to a recurrence of her injury before the competition.

Liu Xiang currently holds the Olympic athletics record in the men's 110m hurdles. However, he suffered a recurrence of his heel injury, preventing him from qualifying in the first few meters of the hurdles.

Liu Xiang suffered a recurrence of his injury and was unable to clear the first few hurdles in the qualifying round.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, Liu Xiang became the first Chinese athlete to set a world record in the sprint event with a time of 12.91 seconds. However, at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he suffered a heel injury during warm-up and was unable to defend his gold medal.

Since the beginning of 2012, Liu Xiang's achievements have marked a spectacular comeback in his competitive career. He has had two important victories at the Diamond League athletics competition in Shanghai and Eugene.

Liu Xiang is not only an outstanding Chinese athlete but also an idol of the country's youth. At the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Stadium was packed with spectators just to watch Liu Xiang compete for 15 minutes.

The 2012 London Olympics seemed poised to continue highlighting China's sporting "hope." Unfortunately, however, Liu Xiang's journey ended prematurely, forcing him to bid farewell to the Games and return to injury treatment.
