(Baonghean.vn) -Tuong Duong District Drug Rehabilitation Center was established in 2005, and in 2010 began to treat, care for and educate addicts inside and outside the district.

The Tuong Duong District Drug Rehabilitation Center has a spacious campus, surrounded by hills. When we arrived, most of the students were working. Mr. Luong Van Dai - Deputy Director of the Center happily said that the unit is organizing for students to raise cows, pigs and grow clean vegetables. The food source produced by the students themselves has helped them to be more aware of the fruits of their labor, giving them more confidence in life.

Mr. Vi Hong Lam (40 years old, Tam Quang commune), a heavy drug addict for over 10 years, confided: when he was young, he was a hard-working, diligent person. At the age of 23, he got married and had a cute grandson. His family life went on peacefully until one day, he was lured by friends and got involved in drugs. Since that day, all his belongings, property, and savings were thrown into drugs. With tears in his eyes, he sadly thought about the times he struggled because of drug shortages, making his wife and children suffer. "I just wish I could start my life over, go back to take care of my small family, and give my children a proper education. My children are now in 11th grade."

Talking to us, Mr. Dai added that when Mr. Lam first entered, he weighed only over 30 kilos, almost just skin and bones, but after 15 months he had completely forgotten about drugs. The working, eating and living regime at the Center helped him regain his strength.

When interacting with others, we were worried to see that most of the addicts here are very young. There are children only 15, 16 years old who have to suffer and struggle every day in the endless addiction. However, the care of their families, society, and the dedication of the staff of the Center have helped many people gradually quit their addictions and recover their health. Every day, the students participate in collective activities; from working, to studying, playing sports, and entertaining. They have seen more of the meaning of life and have been given more motivation to completely give up drugs.

Rehabilitation is difficult, but preventing relapse and reintegrating into the community is even more difficult. This requires the efforts of the rehabilitated addicts themselves, the encouragement, help, and love of their relatives and families, as well as the sympathy and sharing of the community and society.
