The latest wave of violence included two attacks on Sufi shrines, which were attributed to the Salafi extremist sect, according to the BBC.
Attacks on mosques by various factions have increased following the eight-month civil war that overthrew Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
The BBC quoted Fawzi Abdelali's aide as saying: "He submitted his resignation in protest against criticism of the government by members of parliament and in defense of the revolution."
