Russian Parliament calls on US to end economic blockade against Cuba

This is the 10th time since 1994 that the Russian State Duma has made this appeal.

On the afternoon of November 20, the Russian State Duma (Lower House) called on the US to end the economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba.

In its statement, the Russian State Duma noted that the UN General Assembly had adopted a resolution demanding that the United States end its economic blockade against Cuba. Washington's unilateral imposition of an embargo against Cuba not only hampers the economy of the "Island of Liberty", but also violates the legitimate rights and interests of Cubans living in other countries around the world.

The US embargo against Cuba has caused damage to the "Island of Liberty" of more than 108 billion USD as of December last year. The Russian State Duma once again called on the US Congress, on the basis of recognized principles of international relations, to review the Helms-Barton Act and other documents that are hindering economic and trade cooperation with Cuba, thereby finding ways to overcome the remnants of the "Cold War" period.
