Sugarcane output increases, sugarcane productivity decreases

(Baonghean.vn) -According to the report from the Agricultural Affairs Department, Song Lam Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, in the 2012-2013 pressing season, the Company has over 1,700 hectares of sugarcane for pressing. Compared to the 2011-2012 pressing season, the sugarcane area increased by 167 hectares, the output reached 90 thousand tons (increased 15% compared to the plan and the same period).

However, sugarcane yield only reached 52 tons/ha, down 4 tons/ha compared to the previous crop. The cause was determined to be the impact of drought in early May, planthoppers, and grass shoot disease that affected the stages of sugarcane growth and development. In addition, in some raw material areas such as Thanh Son, Tho Son (Anh Son), many households converted the high hills from sugarcane to cassava.

According to the Company, this year's pressing season, the sugar quality in the sugarcane is quite high, so the sugarcane/sugar consumption is reduced (10 sugarcane/1 sugar). The factory has implemented sugarcane purchasing based on sugar reserves, encouraging households to grow sugarcane with high sugar content in sugarcane and high investment.
