Government Committee for Religious Affairs delegation visits Italy
A 10-member inter-sectoral delegation of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs of Vietnam, led by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Pham Dung, visited and worked in the Republic of Italy from November 4-9 to learn about religious issues and the State's management of these issues.

During their time in Italy, the delegation had several meetings with Secretary General of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples Savio Hon Tai Fai, Vice-Chancellor of the Diocese of Rome Filippo Iannone, paid a courtesy call on Vatican Secretary of State Dominique Mamberti, Vatican Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Ettore Balestrero and worked with Italian Deputy Minister of the Interior Saverio Ruperto.
In addition, the delegation also visited the Holy See's Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, which is cooperating with Hanoi Children's Hospital.
At the working session with Italian Deputy Minister of the Interior Ruperto, the two sides discussed policies and laws related to beliefs and religions, the religious situation as well as the religious life of each side.
Deputy Minister Pham Dung said Vietnam is a country with a large Catholic community. The vast majority of Vietnamese Catholics strictly abide by the laws and policies of the state and increasingly contribute to the country's development.
Deputy Minister Pham Dung emphasized that the Vietnamese Government fully respects and ensures the people's freedom of belief and religion, and always supports and creates favorable conditions to help religious organizations. All religions in Vietnam are treated equally. The good religious life in Vietnam today is proof that the Vietnamese Party and State have had correct and open religious policies, truly respecting and protecting the people's freedom of belief and religion.
In addition, the interdisciplinary delegation also listened to and discussed with experts from the Italian Ministry of the Interior on a number of issues related to Catholicism in Italy and how to resolve problems arising in the religious field...
It is expected that in the next working program, the delegation will participate in a general meeting of Pope Benedict XVI on November 7./.
