After more than 7 months of launching (from February 21 to September 30, 2012), the contest has received the response of nearly 1,000 authors nationwide with 1,430 entries. These are also 1,430 stories about family, about relationships, about joys and sorrows, dreams and hopes in life.

Contestants ranged in age from 12 to 80, including professional journalists and writers from ethnic minorities. Among the contestants, author Nguyen Dinh Khue, 80 years old, from Tan Thanh (Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak) sent in more than 100 handwritten poems.

Among the entries, there are many very touching works.

The story "Returning Smile" by Ms. Nguyen Thi Buoi (Nghe An) tells the story of a woman who learned that she was infected with HIV from her husband when she was pregnant with her first child. She gritted her teeth to take care of her husband who was dying of AIDS, while preparing for the birth of her child in the fear of being infected like her. Then her husband passed away, but fortunately her child was not infected with HIV. Thanks to the love and care of her family, she rose up and became a propagandist to help the community understand and prevent the spread of the disease of the century.

Another story is about a mother who spent 18 years taking care of her disabled child with so much bitterness, pain and suffering, with the only wish that her child would overcome his illness and become a normal person. Then there is the story about a soldier who adopted the child of a friend who died…

The Organizing Committee awarded prizes to 16 works, including 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 10 consolation prizes.

The first prize was awarded to the work "The Return of Smile" by author Nguyen Thi Buoi in Hamlet 4, Da Son Commune, Do Luong, Nghe An. What Ms. Nguyen Thi Buoi wants to convey in her story is: No matter how difficult or painful life is, each person must try to overcome it to reach a brighter tomorrow.
