Beans are good for diabetics

Beans are truly miracle vegetables, helping to control blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease in people with type 2 diabetes, according to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. "Our previous studies have shown that legumes are very beneficial in lowering blood sugar levels. This is the first study to show the effect of legumes on cardiovascular risk factors, and that they also have an effect on lowering blood pressure in diabetic patients," said study author Dr. David Jenkins from the Risk Reduction Center, St. Michael's Hospital (Canada).

The study involved 121 people with type 2 diabetes who followed different diets for three months. One group added a cup of legumes (190 grams, including beans, peas, and lentils) to their daily diet, while the other group ate whole grains to increase their fiber intake.

The results showed that the group who ate a cup of beans a day had a significant reduction in blood pressure, which is important because "high blood pressure is a major contributor to kidney failure in these patients," Jenkins said.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes today, closely related to obesity. Patients are susceptible to other health problems such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness... The main cause of the disease is due to unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.
