Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien said that in recent times, Vietnam has made significant progress in developing nuclear power infrastructure such as nuclear inspection, nuclear security and physical protection. However, there are still some other important contents such as human resource development, legal document system, site assessment... that require efforts and efforts to meet the requirements of the IAEA.
The Director of the IAEA Nuclear Power Division said that according to the IAEA criteria, Vietnam is currently in phase 2 of the process of developing nuclear power infrastructure. Developing nuclear power infrastructure is an extremely important issue with many difficulties and challenges, especially for countries that have just started a nuclear power program like Vietnam due to lack of experience and lack of highly qualified experts in this field.
During the workshop (from December 5-14), IAEA experts will work directly with representatives and experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant ministries, branches and agencies to focus on analyzing and discussing contents according to IAEA assessment criteria such as: national location; locations and support facilities; environmental protection; incident response planning; nuclear safety; radiation safety; legal framework; human resources; nuclear fuel cycle; radioactive waste.
Based on the working results, the IAEA Working Group will draw conclusions and recommendations to the Government and relevant agencies of Vietnam on nuclear power infrastructure issues to meet IAEA requirements./.
