The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has assigned Nam Dinh province to represent localities in compiling a dossier on "Cầu văn ritual of Vietnamese people in Nam Dinh" and submit it to the Prime Minister for permission to request UNESCO to recognize it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Chau Van has been included in the Heritage list for research and submission as a World Cultural Heritage.

Closely associated with the worship of Mother Goddesses, the Chau Van ritual has increasingly taken root in the spiritual life of the people, especially the residents of the North.

According to the inventory results of the cultural sector, by August 2012, Nam Dinh province had 287 relics associated with the worship of the Four Palaces Mother Goddess, the worship of Saint Tran and related to the "Cầu văn ritual".

Currently, Nam Dinh has 470 people directly participating in the practice of "Cầu văn ritual", of which 246 people perform "hầu đồng", 245 people perform "hat van" (playing music), and 162 people use musical instruments.

From a folk performance form to a world heritage will be a difficult journey. The Chau Van ritual must find consensus in its own country before conquering the leading experts of UNESCO, as shared by Professor Ngo Duc Thinh - Member of the National Heritage Council...
