(Baonghean) - Co Ba Forestry is planned to become one of the key rubber growing areas of Song Hieu LNN One Member Co., Ltd., so the forest is gradually innovating the appropriate crop structure to ensure the area for rubber tree development. Due to the characteristics of rubber trees, they are only suitable for good land and slopes under 30 degrees, so after a survey at Co Ba Forestry, there are about more than 2,000 hectares out of 8,000 hectares being managed appropriately for rubber trees.

In 2011, Co Ba Forestry Farm started planting rubber trees on an area of 50 hectares in Chau Binh commune. With capital and technical support from Song Hieu LNN One Member Co., Ltd., the forest farm purchased seedlings from the Vietnam Rubber Research Institute in Cat Lai district, Binh Duong province for planting. With proper technical care, the 50 hectares of rubber trees grew well and after nearly 2 years of planting on Quy Chau land, they are now 4-5m high. The Institute's experts have highly appreciated the prospects of rubber trees in Quy Chau land. Therefore, in 2012, the forest farm continued to invest in developing an additional 50 hectares of rubber. Currently, the newly planted area is growing well. Mr. Dang Van Nghi - Deputy Director of Co Ba Forestry said: "The planned rubber area of the forest is 2,000 hectares and is planted in sub-areas 198, 204 and 218, so in some locations, the technical infrastructure has not been invested appropriately and to meet the technical requirements for rubber planting, and at the same time, to rapidly develop the area, it is necessary to open roads to bring in vehicles and machinery to support the forest staff in digging holes, digging trenches... This will affect the progress of rubber planting at the forest farm". Talking to us about this issue, the leader of Song Hieu LNN One Member Co., Ltd. said that the Company currently has a "fleet" of motorbikes and modern equipment to serve the development of technical infrastructure and in the coming time will coordinate and support Co Ba Forestry to gradually overcome the above situation, to ensure the correct implementation of the rubber planting plan.

Because buying rubber seedlings from the Vietnam Rubber Research Institute for planting was expensive and production was not proactive, Co Ba Forestry decided to set up a rubber nursery right in Quy Chau, sending technical staff to the Institute in Binh Duong to learn from experience, inviting Institute staff to work in the nursery together, so this work was successful. Mr. To Van Dung - head of the nursery team said: "Currently, on an area of 2 hectares, Co Ba Forestry has created 3 types of tree varieties: RRIM 600, RRIC 121 and hybrid flowers. These tree varieties are very suitable for the soil and climate conditions of the Central region and will produce good quality latex. Currently, at the nursery, there are 15,000 tree varieties and with that quantity, it will ensure enough supply of seeds for the upcoming planting season. Producing rubber seedlings helps the forest farm to be proactive in production and save investment capital and create stable jobs for 20 workers".

The favorable start of rubber trees on Quy Chau land has been and will be the driving force for Co Ba Forestry to boldly invest in rapidly developing the area of this new crop, and at the same time serve as a model for many places to learn in converting crop structure and effectively exploiting forest land resources.
